When Sonia's home was destroyed in a natural disaster, she remembers being reliant on others for food donations so her family could have at least one meal daily. Since then, she has been committed to helping children and families experiencing food insecurity and the challenges that come with it. Given her personal experience, Sonia prioritizes practical, healthy and empathetic solutions for vulnerable populations.
Sonia's Spoonful is a proud partner of a diverse group of organizations, ranging from large multinational companies to local
BIPOC, minority-owned small businesses.
In 2025, we expanded our work through our partnership in Kenya.
All Sonia's Spoonful recipe cards are made with the knowledge that disadvantaged populations don't need yet another barrier to access. As a result, recipe cards contain simple language and helpful illustrations to ensure that they can be followed by anyone, regardless of age, literacy, or English comprehension. Some of our recipes even have accompanying videos!
At a local education garden, Sonia's Spoonful teaches 50 students and their families annually, and each leaves with recipes and a hearty container of healthy seasonal produce.
1,300+ student visitors at the education garden have access to
Sonia's Spoonful recipe cards and resources.
200 pounds of produce are also donated to a local food pantry.
